SEA Snapshot: Steering Through the Week

Hope everyone is enjoying every moment of this three-day weekend.  So many outdoor fall activities to choose from this time of year!

This week’s Monday Message highlights our annual member appreciation event, Tacos and Trivia, coming up next month.

You will also find information about IEA’s Early Career Fall Blitz.  Our early career liaisons, Rachel Rosone (Hanover Highlands) and Hailey Hazlett (Lakeview), have been sending out information to SEA’s early career members as well.  If you are on their list and are not in years 1-10 of education, be sure to let them know so we can update that distribution list.

Lastly, we are going to be closing up the registration for crafters and vendors for next month’s craft fair this week.  Last chance to get you or someone else you know signed up.

SEA & SEEO Tacos and Trivia Night – November 9

Let’s get ready for another Tacos and Trivia Night! All SEA and SEEO members are invited to attend our annual member appreciation event taking place on Monday, November 9th, from 5-8 PM in the PLC. We typically have this event to kick off American Education Week, but we moved it up one week due to parent-teacher conferences. Dinner will be from 5-6 PM followed by trivia.

Start forming those teams of 4-6 people! You can have multiple teams from each school. Or, you can also choose to be put on a team with people from other schools. Not interested in trivia? It’s okay, come join us for the TACOS! Please RSVP here by November 4.

IEA Early Career Fall Blitz – October 24

Join members of IEA’s Early Career Committee and other local Early Career educators (years 1-10 in the profession) in our area for the Early Career Fall Blitz in Oakbrook on October 24th. Learn how you can get involved with IEA as an early career educator, how to have a small part in decision-making bodies within IEA, and to take election-related action for public education. This is a FREE event and includes lunch. Resources and promotional items will also be provided for Early Career Region Representatives to take back to their regions. For more information and how to register, check out the link to the Early Career Fall Blitz.

Coats for Kids

Schaumburg Township is hosting its annual children’s winterwear drive for District 54 students, “Coats for Kids,” October 19-23. Each year, Schaumburg Township collects NEW coats, snow pants, winter boots, hats and gloves for low-income students in our district. The SEA will take up a collection of winterwear at the October 19th SEA Building Rep Meeting. You can drop your items off anytime between 3:30-5:00 PM, or kindly ask your building rep to drop the items off for you.

Workplace Solutions – Our Employee Assistance Plan

As an employee of District 54, you have access to our employee assistance plan called Workplace Solutions. You can visit their portal at www.wseap.com but will need to enter our district’s access code. If you do not have the access code, you can contact Diana Peters in HR. Workplace Solutions provides confidential counseling, strategies for work-life balance, as well as legal and financial support. Support is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week by calling their toll-free number: 877-215-6614. There is no cost to you or your eligible family members to utilize the Workplace Solutions Services. This is also a confidential service to you.

SEA/SEEO Craft and Vendor Fair

Looking for crafters and vendors for our 4th Annual SEA/SEEO Craft and Vendor Fair on Saturday, November 7th from 10 AM – 4 PM. Registration is open now. This event serves as a fundraiser for the D54 Education Foundation. We have about 30 vendors registered so far, but we would love to keep growing this event! Save the date and be sure to let your friends and family know about our event. Click here to register to be a vendor.

Weekly Contract Reminder – School Calendar

No later than November 1, representatives of the Association and SEEO will meet with the Superintendent or designee in an effort to determine the school calendar. All educators will be afforded a half day of planning time per trimester for the purposes of completing grades, report cards, etc. In addition, the first day of parent teacher conferences will be a full work day (plus evening conference time). The morning of the first day of conferences will be individual plan time. If an emergency day is used during the school year, a school day will be added at the end of the year. Up to five (5) emergency days can be added to the calendar in one (1) school year. (Page 19)
