Mobley’s Monday Message 2-14-22

Good morning SEA,

Hope you had a good weekend and got to enjoy whatever part of Super Bowl Sunday you like best, whether it be the commercials, the half-time show, the snacks, or the actual game itself!

With conferences just ahead, this week’s Monday Message includes a review of the conference expectations for staff and February’s Contract Tidbits which reviews night commitments for our members.

You can also find copies of an Election Notice and nomination forms to be a Building Representative or a Region 35 Council Rep for the 2022-2023 School Year attached.  Just a reminder that nomination forms to be a delegate at this summer’s NEA Representative Assembly in Chicago are due today to Kelly O’Reilly (RAC).

Our monthly SEA Building Rep meeting is today from 3:30-4:30 PM at the PLC.  All members are welcome to attend.  Meetings are being held in person as well as a virtual option.  For the link to the Zoom, please email me.  Superintendent DuRoss will be attending and accompanying him will be Dr. Nick Myers and Darcy Kriha who will all be speaking about District 54’s COVID-19 mitigation protocols.

Mobley’s Monday Message 2-7-22

Good morning SEA,

As we prepare for a day with uncertainties, know that Kathy Jesuit and I are meeting with Superintendent DuRoss this morning to discuss the many questions and concerns sent our way over the past 24 hours.  I am appreciative of the principals who are sending out messages to you and setting aside time today to meet with you as well.  Please be sure to address your questions with them as we work together to keep learning and working environments safe inside our schools the best we can despite recent decisions impacting our classrooms.

Good morning, SEA!

It’s exciting to see various ways in which our schools are honoring Black History Month which kicks off tomorrow, February 1.  Be sure to check out the Learning for Justice website for lessons and activities that can be used not just in February, but year-round in your classrooms.  I’ve highlighted an article in this week’s Monday Message from the LFJ website.  This week you will also find registration for Region 35’s Beyond Chequity Discussion on Wednesday, February 23, which focuses on how to respond to challenging conversations with students, colleagues, or administrators centering on equity.

Here are some other helpful links and information highlighted in the 1/31 Edition of the Monday Message:

Just a reminder February 1 is contractually the last day to notify district of your participation in the Transfer Fair, as well as any type of leave for 2022-2023 which includes parental leave, general leave of absence, or a job sharing leave.  See Appendix F & G in our SEA contract for the forms to submit.

Good morning SEA and welcome back!

SEA’s texting distribution list was updated over break. If you did not receive a text from me, you may have opted out in the past from other texts from IEA or NEA. I have worked with IEA to try and get as many of our members added as possible before sending out an all-membership survey this week. We appreciate you taking just a few minutes to complete the simple two-question survey to gather some data for our contract negotiations team. SEA’s negotiations will resume throughout the next couple months.
